You might have ever heard the term of vegetarian, but only some
people who truly understand what it is exactly. Some people might be misnomer,
see a vegetarian as someone who are looking on vegetables only. On the other
side, some people perceive themselves as vegetarians even if they are eating
fish. So frequently asked questions would be like do vegetarians eat fish? Do vegetarians avoid all of animal products? What’s the
limitation for being vegetarian? Is vegan just same with vegetarians? Here, we
provide you the answers of those questions.
Terminologies and Meaning
Well there are several understanding, perception and even
terminologies in defining and/or categorizing this kind of eating style. The
most common one is trying to differentiate it between vegan, vegetarian, and
pescatarian. Well the first two terms might have been approved internationally
while the latest one still struggling for its formal status. Vegan (sometimes
called as strict vegetarian) basically avoid all kind of food of animal origin,
means that it is not only prohibited to eat meat and fish but also including
eggs and dairy products. In the wider perspective, they are also avoiding
products of animal-based from fashion, accessories and things. Whereas
vegetarian include eggs and dairy products and only avoid meat and fish. So, do vegetarians eat fish? The answer will come out commonly as a big no.
What about pescatarian? Other said it as pesco-vegetarian or maybe pseudo-vegetarian
that include fish, dairy products and eggs for their food that can be eaten
list.
What’s the purpose?
Most of people who devoted themselves to be vegan do it for the
sake of animal rights not because of diet-plan or healthy lifestyle since some
research believe that the healthiest diet for most people actually for being
pesco-vegetarian. Vegan is still rare and quite difficult to adjust and adapt
with their food lifestyle. Where vegetarian is in the moderate level. Some of
them might do it for the animal rights as well, but others for the sake of
health. Pescatarian on the other hand becomes the most preference for people
who are seeking for healthy diet. Fish is considered as one of the most
important composition for balancing the food source. Although it has been
denied by vegetarian and vegan that the composition in fish can be replaced
with flaxseed oil and walnuts.
However, the multiple definitions of the term still hasn’t been
cleared and fixed yet. Therefore, where some people asked do vegetarians eat fish? Some might say yes since actually they are
still focusing on vegetables, fruits, and other kind of natural food with the
additional of fish though. But in my opinion, vegetarians don’t eat fish.
